Friend of mine just sent me this article:
Makes me chuckle when I hear about people leaving California.
Its the best place to live in the world. Period. Full stop.
Not everyone can make it here. Its for winners only.
Legacy of the gold rush still. The best and toughest of an entire generation came to these shores. And many of them never left.
Yes it is expensive– should be. The wagers are higher– should be. Schools are better– yep. Weather is perfect in most places– but you knew that.
Beaches and hills and mountains and glory everywhere you look.
Fifth largest economy in the world.
Opportunity everywhere.
Streets paved with gold, and all that.
Now at the end of the day I am all about AMERICA as a whole. And people are free to move around and pursue their own happiness.
But I never see winners leaving California. This is the Apex of the Apex. Its for the best of the best.
And those who leave always seem to want to come back.
Don’t get me wrong there are TONS of nice places all around the nation. Such a beautiful country we have.
But winners don’t leave California in my experience.
And I’m all about winners.

Yes, it is true this is a beautiful State and the beaches are beautiful and on and on. I want to share a tid bit with you. Have you looked at the prises of houses lately. For example, my parents bought a house brand new in Fountain Valley 55 years ago for 27,500, a beautiful house next to a high school in FV, CA. Today that house is worth close to 900,000 dollars. I was making maybe 16.00 an hour back in those days and not much more today. How can you say things have not gotten more expensive as we are making more. I like many of the things you said however it’s hard to make it on one income in Fountain Valley, CA. I don’t have any plans on moving but I have thought about it many times and some of my friends have left already and more are leaving now because of Gavin Newsome and all the new taxes. California benefits the rich only not medium incomes. Your article has much truth in it but I don’t agree with some things in it. All in all we do live in a beautiful State with great sunshine and many things to do.
The only thing that California has going for it is the weather!
Gas is $4.45 a gallon, income taxes are as high as 13.3%, property taxes when attached to private development are doubled through Mello-Roos, building regulations add $93,870 to the cost of the average home price ($394,300) a/o 2021 and the homeless population in California amounts to 27.89% of the total U.S. homeless population.
But the weather is pretty good…
